SEO for small business: where to start

Small businesses do not need an endless keyword list. Start with pages that answer real commercial demand and make sure the technical foundation is clean.

Check the technical foundation

Each important page should have one stable URL, a clear title and H1, meta description, canonical, mobile-friendly layout, sitemap inclusion and understandable internal navigation. Fix indexing problems before scaling content.

Build a commercial page structure

Create strong pages for genuinely different services. Explain scope, pricing or quote logic, timing, examples and the next step. Avoid generating dozens of near-identical pages only to target keyword or city variations.

Connect local search

For businesses with a service area, align the website with Google Maps, 2GIS and consistent company details. A local page should provide real local value rather than merely repeating a city name.

Measure enquiries, not rankings alone

Track forms, calls, WhatsApp actions, cost per enquiry and lead quality. Rankings are useful for diagnosing visibility, but business decisions should be connected to conversions and revenue where possible.
